Welcome to High Ceiling Sports 2.0! Allow me to explain.
The year was 2019. I was about to become a permanent teacher, but my heart wasn’t fully in it. Don’t get me wrong, I felt like teaching was something I could do for the rest of my life and enjoy. It just wasn’t my dream job. There were two things I loved most in the world at that time- sports, and writing. That’s when I decided to create this website, combining my two passions.
Flash forward to today. I am still a teacher and feel the same way about the job- it’s tiring, it’s fun, it’s hard, it’s rewarding. The marking sucks. The summers off are awesome. Some kids are extremely challenging. Some parents are even worse. Coaching sports is probably the best part of the job. I could go on and on. The point is, I’m sure I’ll teach until retirement age and I’ll be proud of it. I’ve never stopped writing, though. I wrote for quite some time on this website before earning a writing job with a hockey website. I’ve since written for a few different sites, including Sportsnaut, who I continue to write for today.
Last summer, my wife and I bought a house. A few months later, we found out she was pregnant! Over the last several months I’ve been on this journey of finding my own self-worth. My wife is the best, my family and friends are awesome, and I can’t wait to be a dad. I still want something for me, though. I remembered back to this website, and how much joy came from it. It didn’t make me any money, and not many people read it, but it allowed me to express myself creatively, and every now and then I’d receive positive feedback which always felt great.
Writing hockey articles is fun, but it’s systematic. They need to be formatted a certain way, and the topic is pretty standard- hockey. This website allows me more freedom. I’ve spent the last few months writing. The topics include me breaking a toilet, the time I saved a family of frogs, the most memorable presentation a student ever delivered, which sports team will never win a title, my fight against an alligator, and on and on. I’ve broken things down in the following categories:
Story Time
- My weird brain plus my awkwardness make for some entertaining ideas and stories.
Sports Talk
- Sports are always on my mind. Why not write out my thoughts and opinions?
World of Reviews
- Sometimes I’ve wondered if I think too deeply. Then I decided to use it to my advantage by reviewing anything and everything.
Rumble Against the Jungle
- I will strategize my way through battles against a variety of animals, hypothetically at least.
Run with Me
- I’ve been told community is an important part of the running world. This is me keeping myself accountable as I try to become the best runner in the history of mankind! Okay, I’m trying to break a 20 minute 5k.
Derby Dans
- Prepare yourself for the Most Exciting 20 Seconds in Sports! What sport, you ask? Electronic Horse Racing!
Pongo Hats
- Good news, we already have a sponsor! See the behind the scenes creation of Pongo Hats, followed by videos that’ll make you want to embrace your primal side!
The whole point of this website is entertainment. That will happen by way of both articles and videos. I’m looking to bring enjoyment to those that somehow find their way here, all the while amusing myself through the creative process.
Here’s the schedule moving forward:
- Sunday: Story Time/ Run With Me
- Tuesday: Rumble Against the Jungle
- Wednesday: Pongo Hats
- Thursday: Sports Talk/ World of Reviews
- Saturday: Derby Dan’s
Whenever I have trouble ending an email, I’ll just write thanks, followed by my name. I think I’ll do the same here.
Thanks,
My Name
