Sports Bets: January 29th- Road Warrior Edition

Well, my last round of betting did not go so well. That’ll happen, though. I do stand by those bets- the Ducks were up by scores of 3-0, 4-1 and 5-2 before the game ended 5-4. The Rangers were up 2-0 and ended up outshooting the Blue Jackets by 17 but Georgiev stunk in net. Lost bets are lost bets, though. I have to redeem myself today. Here’s where I stand to date:

Anaheim Ducks -1.5  (on the road against Ottawa Senators)

REASONING:

The Ducks are at the end of an Eastern road trip that’s seen them go 2-0-1 so far. John Gibson will be back in net and he’s been unreal this month with a .938 SV%. They get to play a beat up Sens team- Drake Batherson was hurt two games ago (on a garbage cheap shot by Aaron Dell) and Josh Norris was hurt last game. Those two guys have scored 30% of Ottawa’s goals this season. My one concern is a 12:35 Eastern start time for a Western team, but the Ducks have been out East for a little while now which eases my worries. Nice value here, too.

Edmonton Oilers -1.5  (on the road against Montreal Canadiens)

REASONING:

Not a great value here, but it seems like a sure bet. The Oilers are finally back on track, winners of three straight. The Canadiens stink, sitting last place in the entire league. They look like a team who has totally mailed it in already. They have a fanbase who is cheering for losses to try to land a higher draft pick. The one thing that could get in the way of this being a winner is bad Oilers goaltending. I’m hoping me writing that ensures that it does not happen.

Toronto Maple Leafs -1.5  (on the road against Detroit Red Wings)

Bet $100, win $91

REASONING:

Once again, not great value but a safe play. Detroit just played last night in Pittsburgh in a game that went all the way to the shootout. Now they have to travel back home to play a good Leafs’ team who have been waiting for them, having not played since Wednesday. It’s always interesting betting on the Leafs, though. They can get up three goals and somehow blow it. I’m once again writing that in the hopes that putting it out into the universe will make it not happen.
